This past weekend, I had the honor of photographing the wedding of my cousin Jasmin and her new husband, Jerome, in the south suburbs of Atlanta, GA.
Not only was it a beautiful day filled with laughter, sunshine, and celebration… but it also marked my first official wedding shoot. I said yes partially to help out family, but also to challenge myself: could I effectively capture the depth, chaos, and joy of a wedding day with all its moving parts?
Turns out… the answer is yes. And I learned a lot in the process.
The ceremony was outdoors, and despite the forecast calling for storms (and a serious downpour the day before), the skies were clear and sunny. It felt like divine timing, and while the bridal party faced their fair share of behind-the-scenes challenges (as most do on wedding days), the ceremony and reception flowed smoothly.
What stood out most wasn’t the setting or the details… it was the connection between the bride and groom. The way Jasmin and Jerome looked at each other, the way their families spoke about them, the promises exchanged, and the hope embedded in every toast… It reminded me why documenting love stories matters.
Shooting this wedding reminded me of my youth sports photography days—fast-paced, emotionally charged, and demanding your full attention. And the memories are once-in-a-lifetime. That’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.
Now that I’ve got this first one under my belt, I’m already thinking of ways to refine my approach. Smarter gear setups. Smoother workflow. I’m excited to tweak and grow, and shoot more weddings in the future.
